Washington County Assessor

Professional Objective

It is the duty of the Assessor to locate, identify and value all taxable property within the County. The Assessor is the only locally elected official audited annually by the General Assembly. The audit insures compliance with state laws, standards and guidelines in regard to property values and procedures used to determine that property is valued fairly and equitably, using generally accepted professional appraisal techniques and methods. The Assessor is committed to fairness and works diligently to ensure that no one pays more or less than their appropriate portion of the property tax burden.

The Assessor prepares the Certification of Value for all taxing districts, Abstract of Assessment for the State, hears disposition of taxes, and delivers the Tax Warrant to the County Treasurer for collection of taxes. The Assessor transfers property and maintains county records, including mapping records. The Assessor's office was established in compliance with C.R.S. 39-1-104.
